Now that the CK-4 (formerly PC-11 A) formula is on the market, and FA-4 (formerly PC-11 B) is available December 1st 2016, customer questions are becoming more urgent.
Since there’s a lot of information to cover, we decided to take a look at a few of the most pressing questions, but for a more in-depth Q & A, make sure to follow this link, and see what Chevron has to say on the topic.
1.) Will I have to stock two oils now?
We’re seeing a lot of this question lately, and rightfully so. The most important thing to know is that CK-4 product will work in all existing engines, but check OEM specifications for new engines. On the other hand, FA-4 only works in newer engines that were specifically designed to run on it. The goal? Optimum fuel economy and better gas mileage.
2.) Are CK-4 and CJ-4 Compatible?
In short, the answer is yes. You can mix CK-4 and CJ-4 together without any negative side effects, but to really achieve the full effects of CK-4 and it’s fuel optimization, you’ll have to make a complete transition to CK-4.
3.) As a consumer, do I benefit?
Absolutely! The most notable benefit are these formulas improved “oxidative ability.” In short, these new oils are designed to keep engines running longer, and stronger than ever before. They’re engineered to prevent wear and tear and work well even under high temperatures. No matter the conditions you’re used to working in, PC-11 motor oils are sure to make a big impact on efficiency.
4.) Will using the wrong oil cause problems?
Chevron notes that CK-4 is backward compatible, while FA-4 is used for a limited set of engines and applications. While using the wrong kind of oil once or twice probably isn’t going to cause any major problems, it may lead to engine errors or other error lights activating on your dashboard. In addition, using the wrong kinds of oil over time can cause your engine to malfunction, and decrease the life of your equipment significantly.
